I spent this evening watching this excellent BBC documentary on the story of Pulp's "Common People." It was interesting to learn that Jarvis doesn't exactly remember who the girl who "came from Greece and had a thirst for knowledge" was. Despite some attempts to go through old records at St. Martin's College, still nobody was able to identify her.
The documentary is broken up into six bits of about nine minutes each on Youtube. Give yourself an hour to sit down and watch it all, if for no other reason than to wonder at how Jarvis has looked the same since he was sixteen and how the other band members all look so grown up and proper. No more crazy silver shades for Russell Senior and wild fringe haircut on Steve Mackey. The Tripwire has all six pieces on one page here, or you can follow the Youtube video link below and find them there.

I've been quite busy lately doing things and planning even more things, so I've been a little quite around these driveblind parts. So, I'll just spill out a lot here. Hopefully there's something interesting to you.
A few weeks ago we finally got to make some color modifications to our condo. With new furniture on the way, it was the right time to swap bedrooms and paint the old one. The color change was indeed dramatic. In the daytime, it really glows.
Another in-progress project is building my first guitar. I'm sure that I'll have quite a bit more to say and many more pictures about this over the next few weeks as things progress. The plan is that it'll be a Jaguar-style guitar with Jazzmaster pickups and some custom electronics (pickup phase switch, momentary cut switch). The body is alder and will be painted white, and the neck is birdseye maple with a pau ferro fingerboard. Most of the parts have been bought from Warmoth and eBay.
Quite a bit of time over the past few weeks has been spent planning our summer vacations. Plural, yes! We'll be heading to Ireland for about a week in June-July. I can make as many excuses to my wife about just wanting to visit that country again, but everybody knows that it's to see R.E.M. at the Olympia Theater for two nights. For anyone else in the area, I'll be there on for the first two shows on June 30 and July 1. We'll also hopefully be visiting some friends, old and young, around the country. If we can work it out, one of them will be bringing us up in an airplane to the Aran Islands. Unless I go ahead and buy some tickets for the other three nights at the Olympia (just kidding, Maura!)
Irleand is just the warm-up trip. In August we get to the Big One. We've booked a trip to Australia where we'll be seeing Sydney, the Whitsunday Islands, my sister, maybe some penguins, and a few wineries. We were going to call this our summer honeymoon, but a lot of it will be spent with my parents, sister, and maybe also my cousin, so just the last five days will be honeymoon-esque. Still, not bad. If anyone has been there and has any suggestions for what we can't miss, let me know. We still have a few unplanned days and are just trying to figure out what we really need to see. It just can't interfere too much with our relaxing time, of course.
Finally, you're welcome to stop over for a beer any time. After the trip back to Pennsylvania last weekend our fridge is overflowing. I had to buy some Yuengling Porter to go with the Lager I already have so that we can make Black & Tans. Then Maura saw some Victory Hop Devil, which we'd been wanting to try, so we trucked a couple of cases back to Somerville.
p.s. Happy belated second birthday to Driveblind.net. I'm really going to take some time this summer to clean things up and actually add some new stuff.
