Back Off
Damn. I've had This idea since watching the scrolling message board in my high school lobby every morning for three years. Well, it didn't look like I was getting off my ass any time soon, so good for them. $69 isn't a bad price for this, but unfortunately there's a "fun filter" in there so you can't really say what you want.

The Best Wedding Present
I can't believe that someone went to such extremes for our wedding present. I guess now we'll have to shell out for a Brinks truck rental, along with the limo.

RIAA Boycott
Gizmodo is trying to orangize a boycott of the the RIAA for next month (March, 2007). They point out that the only way the RIAA is going to stop suing everybody in sight is if they're hit in the wallet. Or, if nobody every downloads another non-DRM'ed song ever again. They're not suggesting to go out and pirate music. Rather, you can spend the month putting your dollars toward non-RIAA artists or giving your cash directly to the artists at their concerts. I like the suggestion to head over to eMusic and find some new music there in pure, unrestricted MP3 format. I finally started my pay subscription last month and it'll take quite a while before I run out of stuff to get from there. For just $10 a month you can get a few albums worth of music; no other online music store gets you that much for so little (let's stay away from the allofmp3 argument for now). If you're in the Boston area and need some suggestions of where you could see some good live music, I'd suggest the following:
- 3/5 Badly Drawn Boy at the Somerville Theater
- 3/6 Gomez & Ben Kweller at Avalon
- 3/17 Idletones in Portsmouth, NH (if you don't know them, don't ask)
- 3/21 Explosions in the Sky at the Middle East
- 3/23-24 The Decemberists at Avalon
- 3/28 Snow Patrol, Silversun Pickups, OK Go at BU's Agganis Arena
- 3/30 Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3 (Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, Bill Rieflin) at TT the Bear's
See you there. Oh, and if you want to sign up for an eMusic trial, let me know and I'll refer you. We both get free music that way.

My 1st Question To You
Is there a preferred notation for "second?" I've always used "2nd," but recently I've seen a lot of "2d," which I just don't like at all.

Wii Cats
They're fascinated with the Wii setup menu, or, more specifically, the pointer that's flying across the screen. I can still kick both of their furry asses in Wii Tennis.

Caddys Spread Love
Just a few minutes ago I was minding my own business trying to organize my photos from the past couple of months, when my BritEars perked up to a new Cadillac commercial. They've moved beyond Led Zep tunes to the next closest thing - some of John Squire's riffs from The Stone Roses's Second Coming. If I'm correct, it's the opening bit from "Love Spreads. I think my feelings about that album are pretty similar to many, after the album has had a few years to settle in. It's not a bad album, it's just not a great Stone Roses album. Still, I don't know that I want to hear it used for selling cars. Oh well...I don't think John's doing anything else that's been making him any money, other than maybe selling a few of his prints to some rabid fans.
Other Grammy thoughts and ramblings:
Just because Sting is playing with The Police again doesn't mean he has to dress like he did in 1978.
The Grammys are giving a lifetime achievement award to Maria Callas...whoever she is.
Whoa, it looks like the Flaming Lips won two Grammys this year. The first was for Best Rock Instrumental performance for "The Wizard Turns On..." and the second was Engineered Album, Non-Classical (shared with Dave Fridmann). I think that this is the second time that they've won for Best Rock Instrumental. I'm not sure if this says more about their instrumental pieces or the competition in that category.
