Take a Deep Breath

iPhone. Judging from what I've been reading over the past week, that should be enough to keep your eyes glued to whatever else I have to say here. I admit that I followed the keynote minute-by-minute and my heart started beating faster and faster and all I could think of was "When can I get one??" Then I read the comments and wrap-ups afterwards, and the doubting started. Can I live without 3G? What if I need applications that Apple doesn't offer and they don't let 3rd parties develop for this platform? Can I type on this without real keys? I got to the point where I had decided that I was going to wait for the 2nd gen iPhone, but now, more than a week after the initial announcement, I'm back to wanting (but not needing) one. I took a look through what I have installed on my trusty Palm Treo the other day to see what applications I really couldn't be without. I came to the conclusion that I really don't use many very specialized apps, except for my addiction to Yahtzee (high score, 389). So, I think that everything I want in a smartphone is offered in Apple's product. I've also convinced myself that I can learn to work with a touch-screen keyboard. At the very least, it has to be better than messaging on a number pad, which 98% of phones have now. And 3G? Well, EDGE won't be as fast as 3G, but it'll be faster than what I have now, and it'll give me something more to look forward to. As usual, Ethan says it well. Let's all calm down, stop speculating at what Apple might or might not do (they have to let others develop apps or widgets, even if it's just in a tightly-controlled environment), and just go back to being amazed at how cool the iPhone looks. Now I just hope that my Treo lasts until this summer. Some of the keys are starting to feel mushy and it only seems to vibrate when it feels like it.

What do you think of the apple TV? I think that's clever...It blows you can stream dvd's through it though...I'd totally get one if you could.

The Apple TV is something that I think I'll wait for version 2 to buy. I'm not really in need for something like this, and I don't have many videos on my Mac. I'd just end up using it for audio streaming, and I can already use my Airport Express for that. Of course, I have to set it up, but it does everything that I need at this point.
