Going to the Transmission Party

October 16, 2005 5:36 PM

When I first heard "Do You Want To" off of Franz Ferdinand's new album, I really hoped that the line "We're going to the Transmission party" was a Joy Division reference. Unfortunately, I read that it's just a reference to a gallery in Glasgow that's at the center of the city's art scene. Oh well.

Anyhow, I saw Franz last night at the Orpheum Theater. The show was, of course, great, even though the sound in the balcony was really horrible. Would it hurt them to point some of the PA system's tweeters up a bit? I couldn't understand anything Alex said in between songs, and it wasn't just because of my earplugs or his Scottish accent. The band played a good mix of stuff from both of the albums, although there weren't any b-sides or covers in the set. I was impressed, though, that they do a pretty good job with not playing the songs as they are straight off of the album. The most surprising part of the show for me was the crowd. I've never seen a Boston crowd dance like they did last night. It was especially impressive considering the crowded theater seats. Of course, there was a bit more booty-shaking for "Take Me Out" than there was for some of the new stuff (the album has been out for only a week). Way to go, Boston. I would have been severely disappointed if even FF couldn't get you to move a bit.

Now listening: British Accents on WMFO (I was behind the mic between the Morrissey and Bees tracks)
